The Easiest Way to Log Food: Meal Plans

Logging is a pain, and dieting is a pain. We’ve all gone a little too deep into the chicken breast rut, and need some inspiration.

Learning to eat higher protein meals is an adjustment. We’ve found that you have to train yourself to approach protein differently. As you are flexing your food logging muscles, it’s equally important to flex your diet muscles too.

That absolutely does not mean demonizing certain foods or restricting them. It’s about shifting the ratio of what we eat to We’ve built on our experience of how to stock your fridge, how to build a meal from staple proteins and veggies while incorporating variety and trying new things. One thing we’ve really noticed as users of BODYSIM is that when we travel or visit friends and family, it is rare to find the building blocks we need to be consistent with our diet.

Building a Menu for Building Muscles

We’ve made it REALLY EASY. You can either answer the “what’s for dinner?” question with BODYSIM suggestions or you can fill a whole week. The suggestions are tailored to your preferences, whether you like to eat a few staples over and over again or if you want to branch out with new recipes.

When we started with logging we realized the easiest way to log is to not have to do it at all, but just accept suggestions (you do actually have to eat them though - not just accept them in the app). BODYSIM suggestions can be customized for your tastes, and those preferences are applied to all suggestions, whether it’s just the day or the whole meal plan. One great thing about the BODYSIM suggestions is that it gives you a chance to try something new without the pain of logging something new.

Plan Your Week

Our meal planning page can give you ideas for meals that hit your goals in just a single click, but it can also be customized for a week that’s all your own, or it can be used to just plan your staples. For example, I could block off calories for dinner out once or twice a week, plan my healthy breakfasts and lunches, then have BODYSIM suggest a couple additional dinners at home. I could also plan my dinners every night, and let BODYSIM suggest healthy breakfasts and lunches.

I have a couple breakfasts that I stick to in rotation, so I can use a meal plan to organize which days I have a smoothie, which days I have protein oatmeal, and which days I do Skyr with fruit and protein cereal. That just leaves me to log lunch and dinner for the week. Our CEO Ryan has had a huge amount of success with his casein shake every night, which he logs with a separate meal plan every week.

Build a Shopping List and Manage Quantities

Once you’ve decided how to structure your meals for the week, you can add the whole meal plan to a shopping list for just one recipe or for the whole meal plan. Your shopping list is directly linked to WalMart+, so once you define a store and log in, you can get the groceries you need delivered directly to your kitchen. Even if you’re just planning a few recipes, you can build a shopping list from each recipe directly as well, managing leftovers, ingredients that you already have, and even if you don’t want to get your groceries delivered with WalMart+, you can bring the list to the store so you don’t forget anything.

If you are cooking for a crowd, you can add additional eaters to each meal in your meal plan. When you add “extra eaters” your quantities in the recipe are increased, along with the shopping list, but only your portion will be counted towards your macros when you log the food. If you have a partner or friend using BODYSIM, each recipe is shareable so they are able to log exactly what you ate. This is great if you’re eating out with a few people who are logging food in BODYSIM.

Get Cooking

BODYSIM recipes come with a preparation workflow already built in, with pictures detailing how each recipe should be executed. This is important because we’ve implemented a lot of our tricks we use to keep fat down, like nonstick pans and spray oils. You can take your own pictures to add to your BODYSIM recipes you make, or build out your own recipe library with preparation steps and pictures.
